Book club: Interface and A Confederacy of Dunces
OK, so I don't read all that many books and don't have many recommendations. I'm no Oprah. But when I do come across a particularly good book, I'll post it.
A few years ago, a friend recommended "Interface" by Stephen Bury to me. Very good. The basic premise is that a politician has part of his stroke-damaged brain repaired by an imbedded chip. Trick is, that chip can be broadcast to. His political handlers are keeping their fingers on the pulse of the populace's mood, and directing him to follow that mood.
Also a few years ago, another friend recommended "A Confederacy of Dunces". It'll be interesting to see what Hollywood does to this story in 2007, but the book sure is good. Odd, but good.
And for fans of graphic novels (that would be the grown-up way of saying "big comic book" but trying not to embarass yourself), my old favorites are Watchmen, Dark Knight Returns and Kingdom Come.
Hopefully the recommendations will come out more often than annually...
