zadblog

So what is this "zadblog" thing? It's a place where I can post news, thoughts and random rantings. I can say with great certainty that this will evolve. I'll probably spin off separate blogs for different topics - baby, work, home renovation, politics. That way, folk looking for baby news don't have to see my latest drywalling blunder or my "siding with the terrorists" by believing that thou shalt not kill.

Wedding decorations of note

On May 20th, we went to a friend's wedding. Everything was fantastic, but two things really stood out as unusual. Between the salad and main course, there was a palate cleanser course - a scoop of passion fruit sorbet. It was very yummy, but the unusual bit is that it was served in its own ice sculpture, complete with a lighted LED set into it. Of course, our table carved out the lights and made jewelry out of them.

The other surprise was served just before dessert. Trays and trays of amazing marzipan sculptures. These were sculptures of food items the size of a quarter with incredible detail.
There were fried eggs, a ham complete with cross-cutting and bone in the middle, a peeled banana with little brown spots on the peel, a baked potato with a tiny pat of butter on the top, a watermelon slice, complete with 2-layer rind and seeds, and the list goes on.

And if you hear an internet rumor about mini marzipan baby sculptures, it's just a hoax. The sculptures are real, and really creepy, but they're made of resin. Here's the artist's page. Did I mention they're creepy?
