A couple of quick new parent lessons

1) you can deliver all the historical and practical explanations you like, but an infant will not immediately adjust to daylight savings time.

2) when you're warned about an antibiotic's side effect (diarrhea) on your baby, but the baby has no such side effects for the first couple of days, do not under any circumstances utter the phrase "hey, she isn't feeling any of the side effects". If you do, you will only anger the gods of diaper blowouts.

Indeed, Amox-Clav is on the menu as we're recovering from our very first ear infection. When a new person has a bacterial problem, but has never before taken any antibiotics, the positive effects are practically instant. This is easily measured by comparing the baby's recovery to dad's. He's taking the Amox part of that cocktail to treat a sinus infection. It's just sneezy, drippy house, and somehow mom's holding it all together.

And for good measure, the latest weighing came in at 19 pounds, 1 ounce. The weight chart has been updated.

Book club reviews

A while back, I read Babyhood by Paul Riser. Cute, funny and a very quick read. Good book for new daddies and daddy-to-bees.

Haven't finished, but about 1/2 way through Saving General Washington by J. R. Norton. Wow, very excellent book. Clear illustration of the times and motivations of the Founding Fathers of the United States. Looks at the situations they were in, their personalities, and their mindsets - and then compares them with current times. A real eye-opener.
